Investors too reliant on property
Monday, September 22, 2008 11:33:39
Research suggests 51% of investors rely heavily on property. About 10% of consumers hold stocks and shares.
The research, conducted by Mintel, indicated that NI consumers currently have £35bn available for investment.
Katherine James, Northern Bank, said investors could be at unnecessary financial risk by over-relying on one type of investment.
"As a general rule consumers shouldn't rely on one specific type of investment to build their long term wealth.
"While other types of investments aren't without risks, a diverse investment portfolio can help build long term wealth and reduce risk," she said.
The survey also found that only 35% of working adults in Northern Ireland are currently in a pension scheme.
